Supporting Culturally Diverse Learners in Special Education
This course is designed to provide educators with the knowledge of how to support Special Education Culturally Diverse Learners. Stages of cultural development, typical second language acquisition trajectories, and determination of Special Education eligibility will be reviewed.
Comprehensive Reading Assessments
This course will teach participants to employ multiple measures for assessing reading difficulties in students and write an evaluation report analyzing the results. Special attention will be paid to Dyslexia Definitions and Implications.
Getting Started with Math Workshop
Getting Started with Math Workshop introduces participants to a structure for teaching math that supports development and engages students in standards-based, rigorous, and meaningful learning opportunities through implementation and facilitation of various math workshop models.
Restorative Practices in Schools
This course provides an overview of restorative practices to promote improved student behavior and achievement. Course topics will explore building positive cultures and communities, PBIS, the group process, as well as conflict resolution and behavior management through the lens of restorative practices.
Tiered Interventions for Struggling Learners
This course provides educators with evidence-based best practices for developing and implementing tiered interventions for struggling learners. Current issues with struggling learners will be covered, including socioeconomic, social emotional, and behavior management.
Getting Started with Reading Workshop
This course explores the components of Reading Workshop while focusing on the foundations of literacy, instructional strategies, and assessment. Participants will learn strategies to improve student literacy using a balanced literacy approach.
Implementing Writer's Workshop
This course covers practical ideas for launching Writer’s Workshop and mentor texts, planning strategic mini-lessons, maintaining records and creating portfolios for assessment, establishing a productive learning environment, and integrating writing across the curriculum.
Social Emotional Schools: Classroom Management Re-Imagined
This course explores the current social emotional state of students and introduces
strategies to embed social emotional skills across school structures, including design and implementation of an Emotionally Responsive Curriculum, Holistic Learning, Classroom Community, and
Consequences in a social emotional responsive school.
The Special Education Teacher
This course prepares the special education teacher for the responsibilities of being a case manager, including evaluation and report writing, writing IEPs, attending and managing of IEP meetings, inclusion practices, instructional strategies, and Special Education eligibility and law.
Applied Deeper Learning
This course teaches strategies to create relevant and meaningful lesson plans and learning activities for applied deeper student learning, including interdisciplinary projects aligned to state and Common Core learning standards, using critical thinking and cooperative learning skills.
